Corporate Communications Officer
Can you produce great communications to help the Council achieve its priorities? We are looking for a communications person with experience of providing advice, assistance and support to staff and members responding to media enquiries and to those wanting to consult on, promote or raise awareness of events, initiatives and services.
You will need to be able to think creatively about consultation, communications and marketing and have experience of developing clear, engaging communication material and using Social Media to inform, consult and engage with people and organisations.
You must be able to work with others, listening to them and gathering information. We need you to be curious and persistent and able to analyse complicated and sometimes contentious information to identify what is important and then use your skills to produce clear, accurate, interesting and engaging reports and articles including as news releases, website articles and posts to social media.
You will need to have great interpersonal skills, an approachable attitude and be confident when working with people across the Council, its partners and local people. Strong organisational and problem solving skills are important in this role and you’ll need to be proactive and able to exercise excellent judgement and demonstrate a flexible attitude.
The post involves working independently, to plan and do your own work, and also collaboratively to plan campaigns and on tasks and projects. You will be expected to take responsibility where appropriate to get things done and be able to monitor and evaluate the contribution of good communication to the council achieving its desired outcomes.
We need you to have excellent IT skills, experience of using Microsoft software, Social Media and of publishing information to websites. A good level of English and Mathematics is essential to undertake this role effectively.
It is important that you understand the role communications has in countering discrimination, reinforcing the Council’s commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults and to reinforcing council policy related to tackling inequality.
