Thorns Primary school is a Group 2 Community Primary built to serve a new housing estate. It is situated in the South West corner of the West Midlands conurbation in the area traditionally known as The Black Country. Within the borough of Dudley, the school serves six wards with the majority of children attending from Lye, Wollescote, Quarry Bank and Amblecote and comes under Dudley MBC.

The school is a smaller than average single form entry with (currently) 197 pupils on roll across the 4-11 age range with single aged classes throughout.

Primary, Secondary and Special Schools in Dudley are looking for Volunteer School Governors, although these are unpaid posts they will repay your time and effort in supporting schools to achieve improved outcomes for children and young people. The legacy of a good start in life for the pupils of Dudley is priceless so we want you to do it for nothing! 

A school’s Governing Body is made up of Community, Parent, Staff, Local Authority and sometimes Foundation Governor. School Governors have a wide variety of backgrounds, skills and experience and work together with the school and its leadership for the benefit of its pupils.

Governing Bodies are strategic leaders in school, their role is to set the aims and objectives of the school together with the Head Teacher, in line with national guidelines and to supportively hold the school to account for its work and outcomes.

The Role

Could you have what it takes to join one of the many Governing Bodies in Dudley, and work to make a difference to the children in our school.

Depending on the school this is a voluntary role that will expect you to attend approximately 12 meetings school year (usually after school), and undertake visits to observe and review school activities. Hours are variable and flexible.
