*This is a 12 month appointment while a review is undertaken of the Council’s wider commissioning function*

We have an exciting opportunity to appoint a Senior Placements Officer to our Children’s Placements and Commissioning Team.  The successful candidate will oversee the work of the Placements Team; managing the 3 Placements Officers to ensure the placement of looked after children in foster care, residential homes or supported accommodation.  These needs will be identified by Children’s Services Social Workers/Managers.   The role involves making the most effective use of internal resources and contracted services in meeting the residential or fostering placement needs of children and young people. We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills to work as part of a small but effective team who will liaise with a range of professionals including social workers and fostering and residential providers.     

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordination and oversight of the activity of the Placements Team.  This will include day to day management of the workload, allocating placement referrals to team member as well as leading on the placements of particular young people for whom we require bespoke placements to deliver improved outcomes for children and young people.   The role involves working closely with providers, social work, education and health colleagues and requires the ability to work in a changing and demanding environment.   You will need to be familiar with how contracts and framework arrangements work and be able to formalise placements once made.  You will also have a role to play in collecting and maintaining information about where children and young people are placed and monitoring these services. 

For this role the successful candidates must undergo a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check.  BPSS is the minimum standard to ensure the identity and integrity of an employee who has access to official information using secure networks linking central government and local authorities.  A BPSS check involves four main elements; Identity Check, National and Immigration Status, Employment History (last 3 years) and Verification of Criminal Record (unspent convictions only).
