Ryton Pools Country Park is a 100 acre country park and is great to explore. There are many different habitats that are home to a wide range of birds and other wildlife. The excellent surfaced paths enable easy walking around the site, and provide access to adjoining ancient woodland Ryton Wood, the two new Play Areas and Pirate Trail.

Fixed Term Contract for 2 Years
Apprenticeship Pay Scale from 1 April 2018:
Point 1 = £155.40 per week, £4.20 per hour, £8,108.55 per annum – initial salary for all new starters for the first 12 months of the apprenticeship
Progression of pay after 12 months are complete as follows:
Point 2 = £218.30 per week, £5.90 per hour, £11,390.58 per annum - completed 12 months and aged 19 - 20
Point 3 = £273.06 per week, £7.38 per hour, £14,247.88 per annum - completed 12 months and aged 21 – 24
Point 4 = £289.71 per week, £7.83 per hour, £15,116.66 per annum – completed 12 months and aged 25+
As an Apprentice Ranger, you’ll work under close supervision with more senior staff and to start with will be required to carry out basic duties and tasks as required. This will include supporting Rangers in the management of the Park, for the benefit of both visitors and wildlife; contributing to public events; providing information and advice as well as ensuring the Park is clean and tidy.
You’ll be expected to increase the level of work that you carry out as competencies and experience are gained over time and once skilled will work week-ends and bank holidays to support the needs of the service.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification in Level 3 Environmental Conservation, and have 'hands on' experience, while gaining key skills and competencies in the workplace.
- A minimum of four GCSE's at grade A* - D / 9 - 3, or equivalent, including English and Maths
- Good communication skills and the ability to understand written and verbal instructions
- Basic knowledge of native flora and fauna
- Experience of outdoors environments in all weather conditions
- Basic practical skills and use of hand tools e.g. gardening and woodwork would be desirable
Another important requirement is that you can travel to Ryton Pools Country Park, where this job will be based. Travel to work is not something that we can support you with, so please consider how you will get to work each day before applying.

This Apprenticeship will start in August/September 2018, subject to satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks. You must have completed/be about to complete full time education in order to apply.
The Training Provider for this Level 3 Environmental Conservation apprenticeship is Warwickshire College. Some training will be delivered at the college on day release.
Please note: This apprenticeship is NOT open to applicants who already have a qualification at Level 3 or above in Environmental Conservation/Studies - the undertaking of any apprenticeship must be considered as new learning for the individual.
