Staffordshire County Council has been now working with an advocacy model within a large team of committed lawyers since 2014 and due to the success of this model we are now looking to recruit an additional two lawyers who are able to conduct contested advocacy within its Childcare and Adult team.

You can come to us being confident that we know what works with this model of working (and what doesn’t work) and we have excellent support in place for this role.   You will become a senior lawyer working primarily in the Childcare Team but an expansion of your expertise to undertake work within the Adult part of our Team is possible for the right candidate.

You will be an experienced qualified lawyer.    You will be a confident advocate and you will be able to demonstrate recent experience of conducting contested hearings.   You will be someone who wants to develop their skill set but who currently enjoys undertaking advocacy.

With this role you will have the opportunity to retain a very carefully managed case load of childcare (and/or adult work).  As a minimum you will be expected to conduct advocacy on your own cases and, where your case load permits, undertake advocacy within hearings of length for other team members.

Experienced and careful management is applied to this post and work life balance is something that our management team are keen to support with.   To that end agility of working is supported for this post together with an expectation that preparation for hearings is allotted time within the working day rather than in the evenings and weekends.

Relevant skills and experience will include such things as experience of team working in a professional environment. You need to have the skills necessary to carry your own caseload of child protection and/or adult work as well as conducting contested advocacy.  The ability to advise social workers is essential. A strong team player is sought who will thrive in this busy and demanding area within a very cohesive and supportive team.

Whilst information is contained in the attached job description and person specification if you simply think all of this sounds too good to be true or if you are interested in this position further please call Kate Loader (01785 854987) and we can arrange a conversation with our G11 advocate lawyers.
