West Mercia Youth Offending Service operates across Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and Worcestershire, covering a youth population of approximately 112,800 (10 to 17 year olds). The service is hosted by the Office of the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner on behalf of the four local authorities and is currently the only youth justice service in such a hosting arrangement nationally. Services are delivered from multi-disciplinary teams aligned to the four local authority areas.
An opportunity has arisen for a full time Senior Practitioner in our team in Herefordshire. The people appointed will be joining the service at a crucial time following a service re-structure and the implementation of AssetPlus, providing the opportunity to participate in development work both in terms of the local team, but also in defined areas of policy and practice across the whole service. This post primarily supports and assists the Team Manager in ensuring that practice reflects statutory requirements, national and local standards and other priorities set out in the Local Youth Justice Plan this will include the direct supervision of identified staff in addition to contributing to case work with young people.
The successful candidates will hold a professional qualification in a Social Work, Youth Work, Education, Probation or Health OR a Degree or level 6 qualification in Youth Justice, Law, Criminology, Sociology, Psychology, Social Policy or Health related and have significant experience in a Youth Justice Team with case management responsibility for high risk cases and previous experience supporting the delivery of operational management and staff supervision/development.
We would also welcome a secondment from another partner agency.
