The Role

37.0 Hours per Week

The Flood Risk Management (FRM) Team currently responds to over 800 planning consultations each year and through this role, ensures that thousands of new and existing homes across Warwickshire are better protected from the risk of flooding.

An exciting opportunity has opened up within the team to help us to deliver our role as statutory consultee looking at all major developments from a flood risk and drainage perspective. (Salary grade L £33,136 - £35,229) 

We are looking to recruit a FRM Planning & SuDS Engineer who will have proven knowledge and experience in flood risk assessment, and the design or assessment of surface water drainage systems. 

Alternatively, for those with limited experience or looking for a development role, we are also considering suitable candidates for the role of Assistant FRM Planning & SuDS Engineer. (Salary grade I £25,463 - £28,221)

The Flood Risk Management Team perform Warwickshire’s role as Lead Local Flood Authority, working to reduce the risk of flooding across the county in partnership with communities and other flood risk management authorities on a prioritised basis. The team is part of the Planning, Development and Flood Risk Management Group, who are also responsible for: the management of Mineral and Waste development; ensuring that the principles and standards of highway design are met; and overseeing the creation of new roads offered for adoption.

 Key requirements for Engineer Role

  • A degree in Engineering, Hydrology or similar discipline or equivalent.
  • A chartered member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management or similar organisation, or on the way to becoming a chartered member.
  • Minimum of 2 years post qualification experience in flood risk management / drainage management and/or land use planning.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the design and construction of drainage and sustainable drainage schemes.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the administrative, statutory and legal procedures relating to land use planning, land drainage and flood risk management including the responsibilities of the Environment Agency, the Water Companies, District Councils and Internal Drainage Boards.
  • Good knowledge of policies, design and maintenance standards in relation to flood risk management and drainage systems on new developments.

Mobility essential.  Able-bodied applicants must be able to drive and have a driving licence. Disabled applicants should be able to perform the job with aid, where necessary.

Key requirements for Assistant Engineer Role

  • Either: a degree in Engineering, Hydrology or similar discipline or equivalent; or a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.
  • The ability to independently interpret and analyse varied and complex information or situations to produce plans and solutions.
  • The ability to work within policy and practice guidance over a broad area of activity.
  • The ability to use own initiative to organise workload and decide priorities. To work under a high degree of pressure including meeting unpredictable deadlines and dealing with conflicting demands.
