Revenues Officers - Inspections

The Revenues service is responsible for the collection of £850 million of business rates and council tax. We are looking for dynamic and enthusiastic officers, with experience of dealing with inspections and valuation matters, to assist in growing our tax database.

At Birmingham City Council one of the roles of our inspectors is to identify missing or undervalued hereditaments and ensure these are reported to the Valuation Office. Applicants will need to demonstrate experience and understanding of the regulations and processes related to business rates and council tax including liability, discounts, exemptions and valuation matters.

You will be required to work both independently and as part of a team taking ownership of actions to ensure that reports issued to the Valuation Office are dealt with accurately and within the relevant timescales so that targets are met. You will be required to meet with citizens and ratepayers and be able to offer advice and guidance when required. You will also need to interrogate various IT systems to obtain information in connection with potential valuation increases.
