NABIS Intelligence Analyst
About the role:
A unique opportunity has arisen to join NABIS as an Intelligence Analyst on a permanent basis. You will be responsible for supporting the analytical functions within NABIS in relation to the preparation of National Intelligence Model products for all issues relating to Gun Crime, in accordance with nationally agreed principles. Based in Birmingham, but with a national remit you will manage the NABIS intelligence function for a geographic region.
Within your role you will use crime pattern analysis techniques to determine patterns, trends and links within crime and incident information and identify areas where further information must be collected. You will assist in current intelligence operations by collating, researching, and analysing information and intelligence from all relevant sources. You will develop and maintain knowledge of current intelligence together with the crime trends and patterns relevant to the understanding of firearms crime nationally. You will conduct strategic analysis and contribute to the preparation of Strategic Assessments and prepare briefing notes and deliver presentations to forums as appropriate.
As an Intelligence Analyst you will be required to liaise with staff across the UK and internationally to obtain and disseminate information. You will advise upon and recommend intelligence targets and present analysis to senior officers. Your role will require you to prepare, attend and give evidence in a court of law.
You will deliver presentations to audiences and partner agencies outside of NABIS. You will be required to take appropriate security precautions to manage intelligence and information in accordance with current Data Protection Regulations.
The National Ballistics Intelligence Service (NABIS) provides fast time intelligence linked to the criminal use of firearms. NABIS is tasked with linking firearms incidents across the UK to help develop a national understanding of the use, supply, importation and manufacture of illegal firearms. NABIS forms part of UK policing as part of the NPCC’s portfolio, and works closely with the National Crime Agency, UK Border Force and Government Departments.

You will be able to demonstrate that you can effectively meet conflicting demanding deadlines and performance targets whilst remaining flexible and responsive to changing operational circumstances. You will have good IT, planning and organisation skills, as well as effective written and verbal communication skills.
You will also have demonstrable experience and skills in:
- research and analytical processes
- preparing and presenting reports
- articulating, discussing and debating complex issues
- using the NABIS database
It is desirable, but not essential, that you have completed a basic analyst practitioner qualification from a law enforcement agency coupled with a firearms intelligence background. It is also desirable that you will have knowledge of GIS and i2 and have a background in training.
The post holder will be expected to regularly travel across the UK therefore you must hold a valid Driving Licence.
Due to the nature of the role you will be required to undertake / currently hold Security check (SC) level vetting.
