We have a number of Finance Apprenticeships available, and are seeking enthusiastic and ambitious individuals who are looking to get their foot in the door within the financial sector - and believe Birmingham City Council will provide you with a perfect opportunity to start your career in Finance. With a £3 billion plus turnover, and excellent prospects to grow and develop your skills, you can become an experienced Finance Assistant, leading to the possibility of achieving further AAT qualifications.

As a Finance Apprentice you will get exposure to our whole finance service. You will be working within one of our teams such as, Cashbooks, Internal Audit, Services Finance and Corporate Accounts. You will provide a range of tasks including recording finance data on a computerised ledger, data/information handling, interpreting financial information, compiling spreadsheets, and maintaining balance sheets, and a range of administrative tasks.

You will need to have strong numeracy and literacy skills, and an analytical and methodical approach to your work. You must be a good communicator as well as being IT literate and be able to use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Some previous office experience would be advantageous. You will need to have gained 5 GCSEs including Mathematics and English at grades 9-4 (A* to C).

Satisfactory completion of this Intermediate Apprenticeship will enable candidates with commitment and potential to progress to the Advanced Apprenticeship in Accounting - avoiding the rising costs of going to university, and a direct route into employment.

School Leaver Programme:: We are also recruiting now for our accountancy school leaver programme . The start date for this programme will be Autumn 2018. Candidates will have at least, or be expected to achieve 5 GCSEs including Mathematics and English at grades 9–4 (A* to C).
