About the Trust

At Sandwell Children’s Trust, we put the child at the heart of everything we do.

We are committed to providing the best possible support to the children and families we meet.

The Trust is on the road to improvement, transforming the way we do things and we want to strengthen our teams to enable us to provide intervention and preventative solutions for the families we work with. As a Trust, we have the freedom to make the decisions that matter the most, resulting in the best possible outcomes.

Our Approach

We ensure our Newly Qualified social workers are well looked after by enrolling them on to an Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) Programme and having dedicated ASYE Assessors to support and monitor your development throughout your first 12 months.

You will have regular supervision with your manager, attend monthly group supervision with other NQSWs and have a monthly reflective consultation with your ASYE Assessor.  You will be trained in risk assessment tools and signs of safety approach to practice, in order to achieve the best outcomes for the children and families within Sandwell.

About the Role

You are the future of social work and with us you will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge and experience to make a real difference to the children within Sandwell.

Whilst ensuring the wellbeing and safety of the child/young person is paramount, you will work as part of our Care Management Team providing a service that will significantly improve their quality of life. You’ll ensure the best outcome possible for our children, young people and their families, through safeguarding and promoting their welfare.

You will have a lower, monitored caseload than a more experienced social worker and the cases will increase with complexity as you progress through your ASYE programme. By the end of the ASYE you should be able to consistently demonstrate practice in a wider range of tasks and roles, and have become more effective in their interventions, building in confidence, and earning the confidence of others in line with the Department for Education Knowledge and Skills Statements (KSS).

Our Offer

Sandwell Children’s Trust will make a commitment to your continuous learning and development. We will look at your individual needs and provide opportunities to help you grow both personally and professionally.

We will make sure you receive good quality supervision and support, continuous professional development, and an opportunity for a career pathway in Sandwell.

You will have access to our targeted resilience and wellbeing services to help optimise your physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.

Every staff member will be provided with brand new ICT equipment and state of the art systems.

What you need to be successful in this role

  • You must be Social Work qualified/about to qualify with some experience of working with children and families
  • The ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Be able to work well in a team
