General Operative Technical (Gheluvelt Park)

Gheluvelt Park is one of our Green Flag Premier parks in Worcester, with 13 hectares of park land from the Barbourne Road leading down to the River Severn. The Green Flag Award is a benchmark national standard for publicly accessible parks and green spaces in the United Kingdom, that meet rigorously high standards.
Within Gheluvelt Park is our Council run Splash Pad. This popular and free water play feature for toddlers to early teens is operational from April to September each year. We also have a brand new Pavilion including an ice cream and snack kiosk and toilets, that will be open all year.
We are looking for two General Operative Technicians to oversee Gheluvelt Park. You would work within our Environmental Operations team.
Are you motivated, have a practical disposition and are physically able to carry out technical and operational maintenance, including the Splash-Pad water play facility?
Are you conscientious, a problem solver, with a positive, forward-thinking attitude?
If you enjoy working outdoors, both a team player and one who can work without supervision, we would be interested to hear from you.
A percentage of the operational duties will entail both horticultural and general maintenance works in all areas of Gueluvelt Park, in tandem with the Splash Pad responsibilities in the Summer months. You will be helping to support and maintain our Green Flag status for Gheluvelt park.
Key duties include:
- Monitoring water quality of the splash pad
- Cleaning and maintaining the splash pad
- Completing basic horticultural duties - Weeding, mowing, hedge cutting, strimming, Litter picking and emptying Bins
- Visual park inspections
- Facilities cleansing.
You will be provided Personal Protective Equipment to undertake your duties and the Council will offer additional training, where relevant.
Hours of work are 37 hours per week including seasonal weekend working , which can attract enhanced pay. Further details on the working pattern can be obtained from email@example.com
- A Level 2 STA in pool maintenance. (However, training can be provided.)
- A basic understanding of Health & Safety legislation e.g. Risk Assessments, COSHH, safe operating procedures. (Training will be provided).
- A horticultural qualification.
A basic or practical knowledge of Horticultural practices is essential.
The applicant must be self motivated and enjoy outdoor working in all weathers.
You should be a good communicator, demonstrating effective customer service skills with our residents and visitors, if required.
