Enforcement Services consists of three teams - Enforcement, Community & Civil Enforcement and Licensing. This particular role is to provide technical support for both the Enforcement and the Community & Civil Enforcement teams. We are both multi-tasking and motivated and investigate and enforce a wide variety of topics for the residents of East Staffordshire.

Enforcement deal with fly tipping, abandoned vehicles, untidy gardens, travellers, compliance of private hire & hackney carriage drivers & vehicles & private hire operators. Licensing Act 2003 compliance checks, insecure properties, ASB, duty of care in relation to waste contracts, high hedges and unauthorised signage.

Whilst the Community & Civil Enforcement are the eyes and ears of the team working on behalf of both the Council and the community to engage, educate and enforce where necessary. We report findings to the relevant department within the Council for action or action ourselves via issuance of Fixed Penalty Notices for dog related and littering offences or issuance of Penalty Charge Notices for off-street parking offences. We work closely with Enforcement providing information gathered out and about to enable them to action where necessary.

An exciting apprentice opportunity has arisen to work within a team who focus on tackling Environmental Crime within the Borough of East Staffordshire.

The successful candidate will be the first point of contact for service requests, complaints and enquiries associated with the Community & Civil Enforcement and Enforcement team’s remit of activities and allocate tasks as required. The role is to provide support to front line officers by gathering intelligence through initial enquiries and to offer advice and assistance (within the scope of training) and, where necessary, providing letters or the provision of associated literature.

This is an office based role that involves decision making and prioritisation of work is expected although training will be provided.

This role will provide you with a detailed insight into Enforcement Services as a whole, offering you the perfect stepping stone to progression within the Council.

Be able to demonstrate an ability to give advice and assistance to members of the public, businesses, other members of staff/service, stakeholders, other agencies and public bodies.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Able and willing to take responsibility (within the scope of training).

Self-motivated to work both autonomously and as part of a team.

Have a flexible approach to working hours and have the ability to take part in the role of Duty Officer.

Maintain confidentiality and discretion.

GCSE Grade C+ or equivalent in Maths and English or equivalent.

A vocational ICT qualification

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Able and willing to take responsibility and have commitment to the role

Be imaginative/innovative.

Ability to multi task across a range of disciplines

Trustworthy and honest with highest standard of integrity
