We are looking for an enthusiastic, hard-working and flexible person to fill a social worker / AMHP vacancy which has arisen in the Community Mental Health (Dementia) Service for South Warwickshire. This multi-disciplinary team covers a large geographical area, including the towns of Stratford, Warwick, Leamington, Southam and Kenilworth as well as rural South Warwickshire. The post holder is employed by Warwickshire County Council but located within an integrated team and 'seconded' to the NHS under a formal partnership arrangement.

The Role

As one of four social workers in the team you will play a lead role in delivering the Council's Care Act responsibilities towards citizens who have needs arising from dementia. Along with multi-disciplinary colleagues your role is to ensure that, following assessment, the needs and outcomes of individuals are met in a personalised and holistic way. As a registered social worker you will have the utmost consideration for promoting the rights, independence and dignity of customers, and for safeguarding vulnerable individuals from abuse.

Social workers in the team act as care co-ordinators under the Care Programme Approach, and contribute to the team's duty service. If you are already an Approved Mental Health Professional you will contribute to the Countywide AMHP rota. If not yet qualified you will be expected to undertake AMHP training.

Key Requirements

It is a requirement for this role to be a registered social worker. Being an Approved Mental Health Professional would be a distinct advantage. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate excellent skills in assessing the needs of individuals arising from mental ill health and distress, and in working with service users and their families to co-produce creative care and support plans. In your practice you will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to the values and principles which underpin the social work profession.

More important than previous experience of working in a dementia setting is the ability to understand something about, and to empathise with, the challenges facing people living with dementia and their families.
