James Brindley is a stand-alone Academy based in a wide variety of locations across the City of Birmingham. In the course of a school year we educate over 3,000 pupils for periods ranging from a few days in hospital to several years in one of our teaching centres. The majority of our pupils have complex medical needs and many have been out of education for a significant period of time prior to joining the school.
We offer a full-time curriculum to young people from EYFS to KS5 and our aim is always to enable them to ‘close the gap’ and to exceed expected progress during the time they are with us.
We are looking for a qualified teacher of Science at our Hospital Sector, which has pupils of various key stages and abilities.
The length of time pupils spend with us is dependent upon their medical needs and varies from a short stay to a much longer one. We recognise the importance of good educational provision and the role it plays in trying to normalise a child’s life during their hospital stay.
Teaching at James Brindley is highly personalised and you may be teaching one to one or teaching small groups with varying additional needs. We are looking for a resilient and dynamic teacher who can inspire pupils and support them to thrive.
You should be passionate about developing and supporting the needs of the whole child and committed to enabling all pupils to achieve their potential. You must demonstrate tenacity, positivity coupled with experience of teaching KS3, KS4 and KS5 Science, with particular experience or understanding of working with pupils with medical needs. You should
have QTS and a track record as a consistently good practitioner.
