The Locality Working team actively supports people and communities by building Community Capacity and Resilience, Community Inclusion and Wellbeing, Local Partnership Working and Town/Parish Council/Third Sector Relationships.

We are a countywide team with a focus on targeted community development work in priority neighbourhoods; management of the Councillors Grants Scheme; management of the Third Sector Infrastructure Support Services and Equalities Services contracts and the co-ordination of Community Forums.

The team is made up of Northern and Southern/Rugby area teams and a countywide projects team.

The Role

37.0 Hours per Week

A new vacancy exists for a Community Development Worker (CDW) to work predominantly across rural South Warwickshire. Based in Stratford, you will join a network of CD Workers across the county who deliver an ‘Asset Based Community Development’ approach when working in targeted local communities.

We believe in building on the strengths of a community, rather than focusing on the deficits. You will work in partnership with residents and agencies in specific villages or communities of interest to maximise and build on the wealth of assets we know that people and communities possess.  Our aim is to facilitate the development of locally ‘grown’ sustainable solutions that meet people’s needs.

In addition you may have to work evenings and weekends to suit the needs of our client groups.

Key Requirements

To be successful in this role you’ll need experience of community development work and an understanding of working for a local authority. You’ll need to be aware of issues affecting rural communities and the specific challenges they face. You will be trained or have experience in key aspects of Community Development, as well as experience of working with a range of statutory organisations and voluntary and community groups. 

It is important you have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and can work effectively in a team as well as using your own initiative. In addition you’ll need to work in a sympathetic and supportive way to gain the trust of a wide range of people to make the difference in a community setting. In addition, another key requirement is good standard of education to GCSE level.
