School Admissions, Education Transport and Free School Meals Officer

Come and join the Pupil and Student Service as one of our officers working in the School Admissions, Education Transport and Free School Meals teams.
Joining our established service, you will be responsible for providing accurate, general administrative duties.
A main part of your role will be handling applications for school places, including a focus on exclusions and the Fair Access Protocol, as well as applications for school bus services and free school meals - all of which will involve working closely with parents, schools and other Council teams.
You’ll deal with daily queries over the telephone, but also in writing and face to face.
Much of the information you will process will be confidential and you’ll also gain a sound knowledge of the legal framework associated with both school admissions and school appeals.
37.0 Hours per Week
This position will be fixed term for 12 months.
We’re looking for people who can demonstrate excellent literacy, numeracy and communication skills.
Previous administrative experience is desired but a willingness to use your own initiative and be proactive, as well as the ability to plan and organise your own workload effectively, is essential.
You’ll also need strong IT skills and be familiar with creating letters and spreadsheets, as well as databases and mapping software.
Experience of working both within a team and independently is essential.
A willingness to be flexible, with a character that exhibits resilience in difficult situations will also need to be demonstrated, whilst experience of handling confidential information with tact and diplomacy would also be an advantage.
