An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and ambitious individual to join Newcastle Borough Council’s Streetscene Management team. The Streetscene team provides essential operational services for the Council in relation to street cleansing, streetside bin servicing, grass cutting, parks management, environmental management of our land holdings, responsive service requests and positive partnership management.

The post is critical to the effective and efficient service delivery of our functions.

The successful candidate will have an ability to demonstrate exceptional management and leadership qualities to manage and coordinate a large operational team, manage individuals with a variety of skills sets, have a good knowledge of streetscene operational activity and an excellent understanding of health and safety in relation to the work activities undertaken.  You should also have a relevant Diploma of Higher Qualification or equivalent in a related subject.

Additionally the ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a good knowledge of horticultural practices and application, a positive attitude with a demonstrable proactive aptitude for this varied role is crucial. Furthermore an ability to contribute to an established management team will be essential and an ability to communicate effectively with operational colleagues, managers, customers and Councillors.  A local knowledge of the area would be advantageous.

The post holder is required to hold a full driving licence and have regular access to a car to undertake the role              

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and, as such, appointment will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of criminal records via the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed.  This will include details of cautions, reprimands or final warnings, as well as convictions.
