It is if you have a keen interest or desire to work in either a Finance, ICT or Human Resources environment.
If you want to build on your current work experience and qualifications, within a supportive environment that balances learning and on-the-job training. You’ll make a valuable contribution through the work you do in your chosen profession, whilst studying for a higher-level qualification.
- 3 A-levels Grade C or above (or equivalent), including one in a subject related to the apprenticeship you’re applying for.
- Maths and English GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent).
- Demonstrable work experience in your chosen area of interest.
Alternatively, you could have completed a Level 3 Apprenticeship which should also be related to your area of interest.
We want you to succeed, so you’ll need to show us that you’re capable and willing to complete your studies alongside your work responsibilities.

Trainee HR Specialist (Level 5)
Human Resources is at the heart of the organisation and is involved in every stage of the employee journey.
We’re looking for someone who knows that their future is in HR, and they have the experience to prove it. This role will give you exposure to the entire HR environment, including Learning and Development, Advisory Services and Resourcing. It will allow you to become professionally qualified while applying your learning in the workplace.
You’ll be involved in transforming our customer’s experience, through more effective and efficient service delivery. You’ll ensure that our commitment to diversity and inclusion within the workplace is delivered through new initiatives and high-profile project work.
You must be committed to a future in HR, have excellent communication skills and be able to demonstrate your creativity and customer-focussed approach.
Trainee ICT Project Specialist (Level 4)
This is a fantastic opportunity as you’ll be joining the ICT Digital Transformation Team as they develop and implement the council’s Digital Strategy.
You’ll be involved in a diverse range of digital projects, centred around how our workforce and the wider community can use and embrace new technology.
We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic, creative and driven, who can work collaboratively as part of a team and can engage with a variety of audiences.
You must have experience and an understanding of all elements of project management, from planning to delivery and everything in between. You’ll need to be able to work to deadlines, problem solve and make sound decisions. This role will then enable you to build on this foundation and become an outstanding Project Manager.
Trainee ICT Network Specialist (Level 4)
Cyber security has never been more important and this role will help to ensure the council’s ICT networks are safe and secure.
You’ll be working with the Network Security Team, understanding and maintaining the security environment within the council, carrying out checks to ensure the ICT infrastructure is fit for purpose and supporting any work that needs to be done.
You’ll ideally already have some ICT knowledge, for example Local Area Networking, but you’ll get to develop this, including knowledge of firewalls, PAC files, proxy servers, WiFi and internet connectivity.
We’re after an ICT enthusiast, a confident communicator, who has a desire to learn in a fast paced, complex but ultimately rewarding environment.
Trainee Accounting & Taxation Officer (Level 4)
You’ll get to work across the whole of the Finance service.
In Financial Management you’ll be working with managers in both setting and monitoring budgets and salaries, as well as end of year closedown. Whereas in Strategic Finance you’ll be involved in bank reconciliation, capital accounting, treasury management and helping to produce elected member reports.
Experience of working within a financial environment, excellent communication skills and a focus on customer service are a must, as is a real enthusiasm for the wide variety of work you’ll be doing.
