The West Midlands Pension Fund is one of the UK’s largest pension Funds providing, from its base in Wolverhampton, local authority pension benefits for employees across the West Midlands. The Fund manages and administers the pension interests of over 300,000 scheme members, over 600 employers and currently has over £15.4 billion in assets under management.

We are seeking a Regulatory Governance Manager which is a new role within the Governance & Corporate Services team reporting to the Head of Governance & Corporate Services. The post is responsible for ensuring the Fund’s compliance with legislation and guidance and to be the lead expert on the Pension Regulator’s code of practice and how this is implemented and adhered to at the Fund

Responsibilities will include:-

• To be the lead officer for the Fund’s Regulatory Governance Framework ensuring it’s compliance with statutory and best practice guidance as issued by the Pensions Regulator and Government bodies.

• To build an internal controls framework that responds to regulatory challenge and provides a forward thinking approach to service development which is able to adapt to the changing regulatory environment of local government pension schemes.

• To lead the Fund’s service areas in developing compliance in working practice and to support across the Fund’s team in developing knowledge of regulatory governance.

• To lead on the development of the Fund’s Trustee and Pension Board training program delivering an effective decision making process in line with the Regulatory Governance Framework.

The successful candidate will be educated to a Postgraduate/Honours Degree level with good experience of working within a regulated environment. Awareness of the Pensions Regulator code of practice guidelines is desirable with proven experience of advising on compliance within a regulated sector.

They will have experience of cross team working developing frameworks which spread over multi disciplines with evidence of leading change in working practice.

The ideal candidate must be highly organised and able to meet deadlines in a professional and timely manner, with good business acumen. They will be highly professional and effective when interacting with internal and external customers, and have experience of leading a small team.
