Sycamore Short Stay School is a pupil referral unit which provides a nurturing educational environment for KS1, 2 and 3 children who have been permanently excluded from mainstream schools. Many of our pupils have complex emotional, social and behavioural needs. Pupils stay at Sycamore for varying lengths of time, before moving on to their next permanent school. The cohort is transient, with an average of 18 pupils starting at the school each term and a similar number of pupils leaving each term.

Sycamore's purpose is to re-engage disaffected pupils, and give them the skills and aspirations to access and maintain a permanent place in mainstream school or other appropriate educational placement. The work of the Short Stay School is based around core values of communication, consistency, and nurturing. Our mission is to build trusting relationships and unlock potential. Our aim is to enable our pupils to succeed in education, realise their own potential and play an active part in society.

Our pupils need a committed, imaginative and creative teacher, who is experienced and confident in working with children with a wide range of social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.

We are seeking to appoint a skilled teacher to lead a mixed-age and mixed-ability KS3 class. This will involve planning and leading on an area of the curriculum. We are looking for someone who has the ability to inspire, motivate, support and challenge pupils who have experienced a range of difficulties in educational settings.

We can offer our new teacher a rewarding role, working with a team of friendly staff, who are committed to making a difference. Our new colleague will be provided with excellent support for their on-going professional development.

Closing Date: 22nd October 2018

Candidates invited for interview will be observed teaching a group of approximately 6 KS3 pupils.
