An exciting opportunity has arisen within Responsive Services to take the lead on Local Authority responsibilities in terms of Education Safeguarding.  The post holder will provide support, challenge and guidance to schools and communities on a variety of safeguarding and child protection issues.

They will be required to work closely with the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) and with the Education Safeguarding Advice Service (ESAS) who are also located in Responsive Services.

The post holder will assist with the Local Authority contribution to the Staffordshire Safeguarding Children’s Board (SSCB) and attend sub groups and serious case reviews, scoping panels and any other forums as required.

A large part of the post is to support schools, colleges and early years settings to achieve compliance with their safeguarding responsibilities through the use of audits and self-assessments. This extends to being responsible for developing the Section 175/157 audits under the Education Act 2002, compiling the report to the SSCB and acting on recommendations in partnership with other agencies.

The successful applicant will work with schools and their Designated Safeguarding Leads to develop safeguarding systems and encouraging peer support in developing policies and protocols.

The post holder will work within a small team in Responsive Services and must be able to work independently and act on their own initiative. Professional supervision is provided by the County Manager for Responsive Services. The post holder will be required to visit schools and other locations across the breadth of Staffordshire and a willingness to travel is essential.
