£43,248 per annum - Station Commander Development plus 20% flexible duty allowance, rising to Station Commander Competent B plus 20% flexible duty allowance.

Station Commander – Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service are looking for experienced and motivated individuals with the vision to drive the Service forward whilst enhancing its open and inclusive culture.

Applications are invited from existing Station Commanders and substantive Watch Commanders for the role of Station Commander in Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service. There are a number of roles at this level available within the Service.

As part of your application you are asked to upload a personal statement, of no more than 500 words, detailing the skills and attributes which make you suitable for this rank. You are also required to upload a Line Manager’s report using the template provided. Please also provide your two most recent appraisals in your current role. Please note, line managers may be contacted for more information prior to you being invited to attend an interview.

This role requires a motivated and committed individual with strong experience within the Fire and Rescue Service and who embodies our expected behaviours and professional standards.

WFRS are committed to the adoption of the Institute of Fire Engineers technical examinations as part of their promotion and selection process. However it is acknowledged that opportunity to undertake the IFE Level 4 Certificate Leadership & Management exam has been limited and, as such, some leeway is allowed as set out below.

Candidates will need to evidence / demonstrate competence in the below areas:-

  • IFE Level 4 Certificate Operations & Incident Command Exam / qualification or equivalent APL.

NB. Candidates who have taken this exam and are expecting their results in December 2018 may apply on the understanding that their application will only be taken forward if they achieve a pass.

  • IFE Level 4 Certificate Leadership & Management exam / qualification or equivalent management APL Level 4 or above, for example the Institute of Leadership and Management, is desirable. Any appointment will be provisional pending the appointee passing the IFE Level 4 Certificate Leadership & Management exam within 18 months of appointment, if the exam (or APL) is not already held. Sittings of this paper are currently scheduled for March 2019 and March 2020 and candidates are advised that the closing date for the March 2019 paper is 30 November 2018.
  • Certificate of the relevant level IC Assessment (Minimum Level 2) is desirable. Any appointment will be provisional pending the appointee successfully completing a Skills For Justice (SFJ) Awards, Level 4 Award in Intermediate Incident Command in Fire and Rescue Services as soon as practicable after appointment and within the required timescale, if not already completed.
