Library, Works & Skills Manager (21st Century Information & Skills) - Ref: EE27018

 

Salary G8: £28,768 - £32,808 per annum

Part of the Black Country and famous for its enterprising and industrial past, Walsall has invested c.£4.6m in the renovation, refurbishment and redecoration of is town centre Library site.

This key site is now almost complete and is to re-open in Spring 2019. The library will open in January with the Local History Centre & Archive by the end of March. The building will offer a range of facilities and access to council services including the library, archive, a small café, min tourism desk, an ICT training suite and hireable space.

The borough is reinventing itself to become a progressive modern community. This role will be key to our aspirations and requires an experienced and capable manager who will demonstrate strong community engagement and customer care skills.

You will be responsible for ensuring that the Library, Work & Skills part of the service engages with local communities; we want to encourage better education, training, jobs and skills. We want you to bring new ideas and enthusiasm to Walsall and you will be expected to develop and improve the performance of this key front-line service. We expect you to utilise the latest technologies and digital interfaces.

We are looking for a manager who is resilient, flexible and adaptable. You will demonstrate both a proven track record of success in seeking out new and innovative opportunities and have the ability to shape the development of strategy and policy to best serve Walsall’s communities. 

Also, as an excellent communicator, you will be able to advocate at all levels and work successfully, with internal and external partners (in fact whoever is appropriate) in order to deliver the best possible outcomes whilst maximising the use of resources. 

Reporting to the Leisure Operations & Project Manager you will have the support and opportunity to take the council’s Information & Library Service to the next level. 

This post is covered by the Government’s Code of Practice on the English Language Fluency Duty for public sector workers.  The post holder will be required to communicate verbally with customers and provide advice and/or information in accurate spoken English
