The Alders children’s home provides short term care (4-6 weeks) for up to 5 young people aged between 12 and 17 years, who may be admitted in an emergency. The statement of Purpose for the Home is to work towards returning children back to their families and if this is not the individual case then onto an appropriate long term placement.

The purpose of the home is to provide a safe and secure environment that promotes the welfare of looked after children, whilst working directly with young people to support them emotionally and physically to develop into positive role models.

We are currently recruiting for a Full Time Senior Residential Worker. Shifts consist of 7½ hours, 8 hours or 9 hours, being early mornings and late afternoons potentially up until 11:00pm worked across an 8 week rota inclusive of weekends. Sleep in shifts will be as and when required on a rota basis.

You will play a lead role in assisting the Registered Manager in ensuring that resident’s needs are facilitated according to Quality Care Standards for Children’s Homes 2015.  You will be finding solutions and dealing with operational difficulties, significant events and maintenance of systems and processes as required by Directorate Policy and Quality Standards for Children’s Homes. The need to work on your own initiative, manage a team of staff and have the ability to deal with stressful, emotional, demanding and challenging situations are essential, teamed with excellent written and verbal communication skills.   Also, in conjunction with the Registered Manager you will provide an appropriate ‘out of hours’ service of support, guidance and advice to the staff team.

Skills and experience

The ability to provide day to day support to young people resident within the home, fulfilling Team Manager responsibilities and working in partnership with the young people, their families and all professional relevant agencies is essential and to be able to ensure their physical, emotional, social and health and educational needs are met.  As part of the Management Team you will need to demonstrate effective people management skills and to take a significant role in ensuring that each young person is encouraged to reach their full potential.  You must have at least 12 months Management experience and have knowledge of Health and Safety Standards.

We would like a warm, nurturing person who understands that young people need a fresh start. Someone who has experience of teenagers in Residential care will have this understanding and be passionate about supporting that young person to move on in a positive direction.

Residential care is demanding and therefore you will need to be resilient and flexible to fulfil this position.

Interviews will be held on Tuesday 8th January 2019 at the Alders, Tamworth

Interviewees will be required to return in the evening at 6:00pm for a Children’s Panel and Observation
