Job Details
Sandwell Council is in the process of introducing a highway works permit scheme.
Managing the increasing demand on our road network is vital if we are to minimise unnecessary congestion, delays and incidents on our network and deliver on our 2030 Vision Ambitions. We can only do this through great planning, scheduling and co-ordination of activities on our road network.
The Sandwell’s Highway Works Permit Scheme will help us improve the strategic and operational management of the road network. It enhances our existing powers of coordination through the proactive review and approval of works, together with the capability to apply conditions to the planning and carrying out of works.
As a Permit Officer, you will be a key part of the Network Management Team responsible for co-ordinating all activities on our road network and issuing or refusing permits to work in the highway. You will support the Permit Scheme Co-ordinator and Highway Assets and Statutory Functions Manager in all aspects associated with Sandwell’s Highway Permit Scheme including: assessment of permits; application of conditions; maintenance of records; enforcement and recovery of fees and charges.
You will also be involved in reporting processes, assisting in the preparation of management information. There is an element of event management to this role where you may be asked assist with the preparation of event schedules, publicity material, advertising, sourcing venues and providing support at public or stakeholder exhibitions and meetings.
We would love to hear from applicants who can demonstrate:

Knowledge of relevant legislation; Highways Act; NRASWA; Traffic Management Act
Ability to assess risk and hazards when working on the highway
Experience of using technical IT systems. Symology-insight or similar
