This position is located at Lancaster House, Birmingham City Centre working in conjunction with our partners Birmingham City Council. The successful candidate will enjoy a fast moving job in a supportive environment that is proud to deliver an excellent service.   The key functions of a Camera Operative are to provide a professional, accurate, effective CCTV and ANPR monitoring service to reduce crime. To ensure integrity, accuracy and confidentiality of all information gained is secure at all times by strict compliance with operational procedures and codes of practice. To be able to identify and manage risk when assessing CCTV and ANPR reports to enable safe and effective allocation of appropriate police resources.   You are required to have excellent verbal, written and communication skills. You should also have the ability to demonstrate sound investigative skills to ensure a timely and quality service.  A strong candidate will be one who can demonstrate a strong public service ethic, who works well within a team environment while being confident to take on responsibility when required and make appropriate informed decisions.   The preferred candidate should have experience and knowledge of CCTV operation.   Post holders will be required to work an agreed working pattern, which may include rotating / alternating shift patterns and include weekend working and Public Holidays.   Post holders will have a nominated base location of work, but may be required to work at different locations across the force area.   Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactively monitor City watch cameras and decide on best course of action to ensure matter sufficiently dealt with.
  • Review/Download and exhibit CCTV
  • Keep up to date audit Trail of CCTV downloads
  • CCTV evidence packing, production.
  • Attend Court as a witness
  • Engage with stakeholders by monitoring and responding via RCO radio link
  • Respond to emergency help point activations – viewing on CCTV and deciding the necessary course of action.
  • Assisting members of the public with any enquiries.
  • Proactively monitor ANPR – assess information and decide on necessary course of action.
  • Provide necessary live time commentary.
  • Provide Intelligence enquiries utilising ANPR BOF
  • Maintain stakeholder relationships.
  • Ensure any faults with equipment are actioned promptly.
  • Use the Force Intelligence Briefing System to self - brief to understand priority areas and force demands.
  • Utilise all necessary computer systems for the role.
  • To use professional judgement on all calls for service.
  • Work as part of a team, adhering to Force Values.
  • Work at sites across the force where operational need dictates.
