Required as soon as possible Specialist Learning Support Assistants x 2 posts (25 hours per week term time only to work with a specific pupil – linked to funding) at Longwood Primary School, Allton Avenue, Mile Oak, Tamworth B78 3NH

Grade 4 - £17391 - £18319 per annum (this is the Full Time salary and will be pro rata to 25 hours and term time only)

Due to the arrival of a new pupil with complex needs, we are recruiting to our team two people with the compassion to work with a Year 1 pupil with severe communication issues and autistic spectrum disorders.

You will be required to work in pairs with specialist guidance to enable the pupil to gain an EHCP which will enable him to access a specialist unit. The child has extremely supportive parents who accept his complex needs and want him to attend a specialist unit.

The successful candidates will work within our primary school setting to enable the pupil to access an individual learning plan.

We are looking for candidates with:

  • experience of working as a Teaching Assistant within  KS1
  • experience of communication & interaction needs, especially autistic spectrum disorders
  • knowledge of safeguarding procedures in school
  • good communication skills
  • ability to work as part of a team with ability to also show initiative
  • commitment to helping children learn and make good progress
  • optimism, sense of humour and ability to solve problems

Experience of working with individuals with communication and interaction needs including autistic spectrum disorders would be an advantage. We recognise that the candidates will be supporting an individual pupil with autistic spectrum disorders within the school environment. Therefore, applications from individuals who have expertise working with ASD in other settings are also welcomed.
