Physical Activity Consultant

£18,870 - £20,541 per annum

NJC Scale 4

37 hours per week

Telford and Wrekin Leisure Services are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Level 3 qualified fitness instructor (please see Person Specifications for specific qualifications required)to support the delivery of a number of fitness and physical activity initiatives.

The post holder will be responsible for delivering a number of fitness and physical activity initiatives across the borough which incorporate community based exercise opportunities for clients of low and/or medium risk as part of a local chronic disease pathway. The post holder will support individuals in learning how to make better health choices and in initiating and sustaining appropriate behavioural changes.

  • Gym Instructor level 3 (or equivalent)
  • GP Referral Qualification
  • Group Teaching qualification (e.g. circuits/exercise to music)
  • Member of the Register of Exercise professionals
  • First Aid Qualification (or to be obtained within 6 months)

The post holder will need to have the following.

  • Confidence and competence in delivering exercise programmes/classes for special populations
  • To be committed to customer care and to providing an efficient and effective quality service
  • Possess good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with ability to talk to customers face to face, on the telephone and in writing
  • Be able to work with own initiative and work in a team environment by developing effective and constructive working relationships with colleagues
  • Work under pressure and have good organisational skills to manage workload effectively
  • Ability to monitor and interpret usage information and trends.
  • Understanding of Health and Safety within the Health and Fitness Environment
  • Has a good knowledge of services available across all Health and Fitness facilities
  • An understanding of Anatomy and Physiology
  • Has a good knowledge of services available within the local community
