The post of Casual Arboricultural Officer is in the Heritage and Conservation team, which forms part of the Economic Development and Planning service. This small team provides advice and supports the planning (policy and development management) functions in the areas of tree protection, archaeology, conservation areas, listed buildings and other designated sites, and heritage at risk.

The Worcester City Council area includes over 200 TPOs covering more than 5000 trees. There are 18 conservation areas (with an additional conservation area currently undergoing public consultation).
The role will involve (as required) providing a professional and technical arboricultural opinion, including reports and recommendations for action, on:


• Proposed works to TPO trees, including felling and replacement
• Proposed works to conservation area trees, including felling
• Proposals to create new TPOs, including validation of provisional TPOs

Membership of the Arboricultural Association at an appropriate level


Full clean driving licence and access to a car insured for work use

  • Technical skills in tree identification, assessment and description 
  • Report writing skills including clarity and accuracy, and the ability to make technical information accessible to a non-specialist reader
  • Experience of making Tree Preservation Orders and handling TPO casework

The pay rate for this casual post is £225 per day (7.4 hrs), or pro-rata for shorter hours.
