Job Details

Our Governing Board is exceptional and our school values the difference that our school governors make to improving outcomes for our children, families and the community we serve.

Being a school governor is a rewarding and very interesting role. It is all about giving the opportunity to make a difference for children, sharing your knowledge, skills and expertise. We are particularly seeking a Governor with educational experience who has no connection to the children.

The three core functions of a school governing board are to:

• To ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction, alongside the Head teacher
• To hold the Headteacher to account for the education performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of the staff
• To oversee the financial performance of the school and make sure that the money is well spent

Time commitment
The time commitment for school governors will vary. However, all governors must attend at least 3 meetings of the full board per year. The term of office is up to 4 years. Usually governors sit on a committee focused on an area they have knowledge of, or are particularly interested in, for example the finance committee. Preparation for meetings includes reading papers and preparing questions for senior leaders. You will also be expected to undertake any training required to enable you to discharge your role effectively.

If you would like to know more about becoming a school governor, please contact 01384816930
