Job Details

Warwickshire County Council's Street Lighting Section manages 55,000 street lights, illuminated traffic signs and bollards which are vital for Warwickshire’s infrastructure and the safety of the public. The aim of the Key Driver Team is to reduce costs through the specification of equipment that has minimal electricity consumption and maintenance requirements over the course of its working life. 

The Role

The post holder will be required to lead on fantastic projects that require street lighting input and/or electricity connections on the Highway. This will include carrying out designs and technical approval for Section 38/278 schemes, delivery of street lighting projects through the maintenance contractor that are specified by colleagues in Traffic and Road Safety as well as any street lighting projects that arise. From time to time there will be a need to be involved with maintenance aspects of street lighting through the maintenance contractor.

The post holder will also be part of the Street Lighting out of office rota which involves receiving and dealing with contacts from the emergency services and other authorities during out of office hours, including weekends and bank holidays. The frequency of the rota is 1 week in 5, and there is an additional payment of £2,130 per annum for being on the rota.

Key Requirements

The post holder will have experience of carrying out street lighting designs and/or projects that comply with BS5489, and be proficient in the use of Reality and CAD. A relevant electrical qualification is essential, and completion of the ILP Lighting Technology Diploma would be desirable. The post holder will be able to work with minimal supervision, and be comfortable in dealing with queries that arise from their work.
