Pre-School Deputy Manager

Summary of Position:                                 

Hampton Magna Pre-School provides high quality care and education for children aged 2 to 5 years and you will assist the Manager to ensure this is delivered.The Deputy Manager has 3 distinct roles - working with the Manager to plan and organise the work of the setting; to deputise for the Preschool Manager in her absence; an Early Years educator.

Person Specification – Education, skills, abilities and experience

  • Academic achievements must include, Grade C in English and Mathematics GCSE plus an GCE A level qualification,
  • Professional qualifications must be to a minimum of Level 3 in a relevant Childcare NVQ,
  • Job requirements mean that you must be competent in the use Microsoft Word and Excel and preferably have a valid UK driving licence and transport,
  • A minimum of 1 year’s experience in a similar setting,
  • Deep knowledge of the EYFS to be able to complete the necessary child development records using both manual and computerised systems and advise other staff,
  • A commitment to continual professional development, undertaking additional training for personal progression and within the needs of the Pre-School

Roles and Responsibilities

The setting provides stimulating high quality, child led active, play based, learning opportunities (indoors and outdoors) which allow children to make good progress within the Early Years Foundation Stage.We meet the needs of children individually and in groups based on their abilities and interests enabling all children to meet the full potential

Working with the Manager to plan and organise the work of the setting:

  • Developing the operational plan (including review of the self evaluation, previous Ofsted inspections and changes to the EYFS), risk assessments and operating policies and ensuring all staff have a good understanding and are encouraged to follow them,
  • Evaluate child development records (using the Warwickshire Electronic Tracking Records) and joining information provided by parents and develop short and long term plans of indoor and outdoor activities,
  • Ensure that the Pre-school provides a safe, stimulating and nurturing early years environment and that the necessary equipment and staffing (meeting qualification, experience and adult to child ratios required by Ofsted and the EYFS) are available to deliver planned activities,
  • Staff supervision, appraisal and training needs identification, providing positive and constructive feedback which will assist with personal progression and development of the staff team,
  • Developing a strong team spirit amongst staff,
  • Develop close and positive relationships with parents and carers, exchanging information about children’s progress and encouraging parents’ involvement with learning journeys and Pre-School life.

In the absence of the Preschool Manager the Deputy Manager will

  • Act up as the Pre-School Manager and implement all aspects of the Operational Plan including delivery of short and long term planned activities,
  • Ensure administration tasks which are essential to the running of the Pre-School are undertaken accurately and timely (outside Preschool operating hours if needed) – this includes but is not limited to completion of Warwickshire County Council funding forms and computer portal information, PDF forms, invoices to parents, ensuring daily registers are prepared, responding to parent emails and queries appropriately, issuing parent newsletters,
  • Liaise with other professionals external to the Pre-School in order to meet the needs of children and families with a particular reference to those children with SEN and needs external to the Pre-School in terms of safeguarding,
  • Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead, ensuring that children are safeguarded and protected from harm at all times.   This includes making difficult decisions, liaison with the Committee Chair, keeping appropriate records and making referrals to external agencies.

Early Years Educator:

  • Act as keyworker to a designated group of children to include settling in, basic care needs, first aid (if you hold an appropriate first aid certificate), supporting the children and families to settle into the Pre-School environment, acting as the first point of contact for parents and carers if they have any concerns over their child,
  • Complete Progress Summaries ensuring they are accurate and support future activity planning that extends learning and attending learning journey meetings,
  • Ensure that the Pre-School is a safe environment for children, staff and parents, carers or visitors; that equipment is safe, standards of hygiene are high, safety procedures are implemented at all times and fire drills are regularly undertaken
  • Ensure important records are maintained to include the daily attendance register, accident and incident book and deal with child protection issues, accidents, complaints and emergencies,
  • Working as part of the team, contributing to he morning set up and afternoon pack away,
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed, in accordance with the Pre-School aims and objectives 

This job description is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will also be required to carry out any other duties which may reasonably be required of you in accordance with the needs of the Pre-school. You are also required to be flexible and adaptable with respect to your role, being aware that some administration tasks will require completion outside of the operational hours of the Pre-School.

Hampton Magna Pre-School is located on the edge of Warwick in the village of Hampton Magna.  We provide Preschool education and care for around 30 children aged from 2 years old.  We have close links with Budbrooke School and the local community.

It is our Vision that every child should receive the best possible preparation before entering full time education and our mission is to promote the EYFS in order to provide high quality, open, inclusive preschool education and care to children who are safe, free from discrimination and happy while they play in our setting.

We are a charitable (charity number 1036482) voluntary committee managed “pack away” setting open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 8:30 am to 4:00 pm for 39 weeks of the year.
