This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced qualified Social Worker / Approved Mental Health Professional join the Emergency Duty Team to undertake emergency out of hour’s service.

About us

Telford & Wrekin Emergency Duty Team responds to emergencies which need addressing outside normal office hour when daytime offices are closed. This includes evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays managing referrals that cannot wait until the next working day. Work is generated across all areas of social work - children, adults, Mental Health Act  and emergency housing needs, providing an emergency “out of hours” for all residents across the Borough of Telford and Wrekin. Whilst the majority of work is outside normal office hours Social Workers will also need to attend some meetings during weekday hours, such as Team Meetings, Supervision and Training.

The Role

The successful candidate will be expected to work out of hours on a 5 week rota bases covering 10 shifts over 3 weeks, followed by 2 weeks off rota period. As a duty EDT worker, your primary responsibility will be to manage a specific shift safely and appropriately. Having the skills to prioritise and delegate work in a timely manner appropriate to need, is an essential part of the role.

Local Pay Point 38 – 41, Maximum Annual Salary is £44,852 this includes 15% out of hours enhancement, 2 increments for Approved Mental Health Professional status plus you also receive essential car allowance and mileage.

The post holder will need to demonstrate their ability to lone work, take responsibility for any situation that arises out of hours and to work along side professionals from other agencies covering an out of hours emergency service. The person we are looking to appoint will be experienced Social Workers with a high level of understanding, knowledge and experience particularly in child protection, but with respect to safeguarding both vulnerable children and adults. The post holder would need to have the confidence to manage risk and the ability to work in an often pressured environment.

The post holders will provide guidance and support to colleagues, commensurate with their knowledge and expertise

The Senior Social Worker will have access to a manager on call for consultation and support, taking responsibility for exercising the Local Authority’s statutory duties around Safeguarding, Mental Health Act work, and emergency housing.

Key Requirements

You will operate as a senior social worker having a broad experience as a Social Worker:
*Hold a recognised qualification in Social Work

*hold a minimum of 4 years’ experience as a social worker                                       

* be an Approved Mental Health Professional

* Must be able to demonstrate a high level of understanding, knowledge and experience with respect to safeguarding crisis.

*As EDT worker, your primary responsibility will be to manage a specific shift safely and appropriately. Having the skills to prioritise and delegate work in a timely manner appropriate to need,

*The successful applicant would need to be experienced in children & adult safeguarding/mental health. You will be responsible for undertaking safeguarding emergency social care crisis response and any necessary assessments,  

Skills & Experience

Ideally you will have experience of working with people from diverse backgrounds, enjoy working on your own initiative, be able to prioritise and make decisions.

Experience of risk assessment and management, the implementation of emergency interventions to improve outcomes for vulnerable adults, children, young people and their families, including those subject to a care / protection plans,

Ability to work alone and with a range of agencies in responding to emergency situations within a partnership/holistic approach to problem solving

The post holder will be responsible for professional assessment and decision making in relation to risk management strategies for adults in need of care and support, children, their families /carers, balancing a number of key considerations autonomously, in the majority of cases and where appropriate consulting with the Team manager EDT or seek resource approval from the Service Delivery Manager on rota .
