Job Details

Warwickshire County Council County Highways investigate, cost and design highway structural maintenance schemes/works. The works are delivered in conjunction with the term maintenance contractor and include carriageway/footway reconstruction, resurfacing, structural patching, micro-asphalt, surface dressing, footway slurry sealing and drainage schemes.

County Highways also delivers small scale capital projects for a range of clients which includes traffic schemes and pedestrian crossings.

This is an exciting role, and as our Engineer you’ll be responsible for a varied and interesting workload that includes working on projects of various sizes from inception through to completion using Engineering/Transport Planning systems e.g. CAD. Travelling across the county as necessary, you’ll be undertaking design, using a variety of structural materials; preparing documents to deliver projects; providing supervision on site, ensuring all our projects are delivered on time, within budget and reach our required quality and safety standards. Working within a team; on your own initiative and with our external contractors you’ll be dealing with the conflicting demands of the role and be responsible for monitoring and maintaining budgets for Schemes. A full training and development programme will be given to you when you start with us.

Key Requirements

To be successful in this role you must have experience of managing projects at a senior level, with the ability to independently interpret and analyse varied and complex information or situations and to produce solutions over the long term. As you’ll be managing a variety of relationships with internal and external stakeholders, it’s important you have strong communication skills, both written and verbal and can communicate contentious information to a variety of audiences. Strong planning and organising skills; resilient; flexible in your approach; used to negotiating, influencing and persuading and used to making decisions are also important. With the ability to work within a team and on your own initiative and unsupervised you’ll have experience of delivering projects on time and within budget. In addition you’ll either hold the full relevant professional qualification or significant experience of managing large projects at senior level as well as experience of using different IT equipment, preferably CAD.
