About the role:

2 year Fixed Term Contract

The Economic Crime Unit are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic people to join our team to provide much needed analytical support.  The department primarily deals with financial investigation, complex fraud investigation and asset recovery utilising the Proceeds of Crime Act (2002).

This post will be part of a newly created team within the ECU who will be responsible for increasing the seizure and confiscation of assets from individuals involved in organised crime.

 

We are looking for people who will be creative and innovative within a problem-solving environment. You will be able to think laterally and you should be able to demonstrate an ability to translate these skills to support operational policing.

You will have the ability to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team, with strong interpersonal skills, confidence and the ability to express ideas and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Role Purpose:

 

  • Interrogate financial material; identifying, tracing and following criminal assets in order to identify networks, the dissipation of funds and other lines of enquiry.
  • Examine and analyse other material that is relevant to the case, such as telecommunications data and other Intelligence systems.
  • Produce evidential and intelligence reports within a document that can be used as part of a criminal case and provide the evidence at court.
  • Provide performance analysis for the department in order to make recommendations around the effective use of ECU resources.
  • Develop and carry out intelligence analysis around those offenders and series of crimes that are causing most threat, risk and harm
  • Support the department’s internal tasking, Operational and SIM processes. 

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to complete the FIO programme, a 12 week distance learning course regulated and accredited by the National Crime Agency Proceeds of Crime Centre.   

The successful applicant will be Management Vetted.

Essential Requirements:

  • Must have proven experience and be able to demonstrate good knowledge of analytical practices and uses within a financial arena.
  • Must have a good understanding of i2 Analyst Notebook and Microsoft office including Excel
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to communicate with a range of different colleagues from different disciplines
  • Ability to maintain the highest levels of integrity, discretion and confidentiality.
  • Must be able to work on his/her own initiative whilst within a team environment and the ability to work under pressure to specific deadlines.

 

Desirable Requirements:

  • Investigative experience within a financial arena.
  • Experience of supporting complex Investigations.
  • Experience of giving evidence in court
  • Evidence a good understanding of the requirements of the National Intelligence Model.
  • Training in GIS software packages e.g. MapInfo.
  • Experience of preparing and delivering presentations.

The ECU are holding two discovery sessions to give prospective candidates more information about the team and the roles.  They will take place in the ECU meeting room, Perry Barr Custody Suite, Holford Drive, Perry Barr, Birmingham, B42 2TU on Tuesday 22 January between 11:00 and 13:00 and on Wednesday 23 January 2019 between 14:00 and 16:00.  If you would like to register for one of these sessions please e-mail CI_PAYBACK_ADMIN@west-midlands.pnn.police.uk. There is limited parking on site.  Please include in your e-mail if you require a parking space. Alternatively, if you are going to use public transport you can either use:

  • Train: there are trains from New Street to Perry Barr train station and the police station is 10-15 mins walk away.
  • Bus: From Birmingham City Centre the 997(E), 934, 935 which you can get from the top of Corporation Street (outside the Magistrates Court), all go to Perry Barr and there is a stop at the end of Holford Drive.  The police station is 5 minutes’ walk from there.
