Would you like to work for a ‘Good’ local authority – one that has an established safeguarding system that allows you to showcase your current management skills and supports your development?

We recognise the need of ensuring manageable workloads for Social Workers and for Team Managers and as such have created an additional Case Management Team.

Shropshire is a beautiful county and a great place to work and live, and this is an exciting time to join Shropshire Council. Our children’s services were rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted in November 2017 and we are keen to attract the best managers to help us maintain our effective services to families.

We work in an established safeguarding system, with strong partnerships and effective Early Help services and ensure that vulnerable children, young people and their families are effectively supported to reach their full potential. During our most recent inspection, Ofsted felt that we knew our children well, and recognised the impact of our stable management team.

Ofsted also said that “Senior leaders and elected members have robustly supported building up a strong, trained workforce to meet the high-quality social work practice expected by the Local Authority.”

Shropshire Council is committed to high standards and achieving the very best outcomes for children and young people through proactive and child focused care planning.  It’s important that our managers are able to provide good quality and reflective supervision to our social workers and we recognise that they need the right support to achieve this. This support includes a comprehensive learning and development offer, the opportunity to undertake a management qualification, regular supervision from service managers and the support of visible senior managers.

Following a review of the service and our continued commitment to ensure manageable workloads, we have created an additional team in the Case Management Service.

The right candidate will strive achieve the best outcomes for children and have the skills and knowledge to lead a team successfully and drive performance were needed. You will be a HCPC registered social worker with experience of managing or supervising social workers. A management qualification is not essential as you will be supported to complete this. You will have a solid knowledge of legislation and regulation guidance relevant to your role and previous experience of working in frontline children’s services.

Working for Shropshire Council you will also receive:-

  • A manageable workload
  • High level of admin support
  • An exciting learning and development package
  • High quality professional supervision from service managers.
  • A supportive and collaborative management team.
  • Established safeguarding structure and partnerships
  • A competitive package including benefits scheme, LGPS and generous holiday entitlement
