Dudley MBC is seeking an experienced housing or civil litigation specialist who is driven, dynamic and keen to make a difference for those who live and work in the Borough.

The Housing team forms part of the Law and Governance Division within the Chief Executives Directorate and this position is for a Housing Solicitor/Barrister. The team undertakes a wide range of housing law work, alongside drafting policies, protocols and procedures. We are seeking to recruit the post below to enhance the service offered to our clients.

A flexible and enthusiastic individual is required to take up this post, reporting directly to the Principal Solicitor. The successful applicant will undertake a broad range of legal work related to housing law, including litigation and advocacy, and provide general advice to the Council’s Directorates. The ideal candidate should be experienced in the law relating to housing possession proceedings, anti-social behaviour injunctions and dealing with a full caseload of files (or possess transferable civil litigation skills).  Daily tasks will include drafting notices, court applications (including claims for possession and injunctions), undertaking advocacy, providing in-house legal training, and assisting in the drafting of policies, protocols and procedures.

 

The post-holder must possess excellent communication skills and be able to prioritise work efficiently. You will have the rare opportunity to work closely with your client department, so must be approachable and open. You must hold appropriate professional qualifications, cope well under pressure, and be prepared to work both as part of a team and on your own initiative.  Candidates with excellent civil litigation experience which is easily transferable to housing, work will also be considered.
