Principal: Mr D Smith

Teacher of Geography

Salary: Mainscale

Thank you for your interest in Blue Coat Church of England Academy. We are delighted that you are considering joining our team at this exciting stage in our journey.

We have the opportunity for an exceptional teacher to make a significant difference to the life chances of our students. As a dedicated and enthusiastic Teacher of Geography you will have a clear passion for and knowledge of your subject. You will play a significant role in building on the excellent standards already achieved within the department. We pride ourselves on using imagination, passion and skills at KS3 in preparation for KS4 and KS5, as well as our students’ lives beyond the classroom.

We are looking to continue the recent growth in uptake of Geography including at A-Level. This development has been achieved through the consistent, yet adaptable teaching of new ideas at all Key Stages.  We are looking for a member of staff who will not only contribute to this process but help continue this growth with new and original ideas. There will be opportunities for the successful candidate to teach from Year 7 through to Year 13.

Blue Coat Academy is seeking a positive role model for our young people, with a distinct ability to inspire pupils and staff. We are a self-improving school where our commitment is to developing and supporting all staff in their career path.  This role would be ideal for an experienced Geography teacher with a track record of teaching consistently good and outstanding lessons and of promoting rapid progress, or potential NQTs who are making strong progress in their training. We deliver a comprehensive induction programme and encourage all of our staff to be ambitious for their futures. The successful applicant will also demonstrate an ambition to develop in their role and embrace the CPD that is available to support them in becoming an outstanding practitioner.

While we are part of the Blue Coat Family of schools, we operate as a standalone Academy. We base our profound ideals on our Christian foundation; we strive to introduce Christian aspects of teaching in to all that we do. This is why during form time each day all students participate in a daily act of worship and time for reflection. There is also a weekly worship in St. Matthew’s Church when the whole Academy gathers to enjoy thought provoking talks and performances.

Together we create a positive and challenging learning environment that encourages high expectations.  We are an 11-18 Academy that was described by OFSTED (January 2018) as a good school. We are proud to have been recognised as a flagship school and have held the Inclusion Quality Mark since July 2013.

We hope you will be able to see your place in this story and come forward to apply for this exciting and pivotal role.

Start date for the post would be September 2019, but for the right candidate we would consider Easter 2019 or a start date towards the end of the summer term.

If you require any help or advice as you consider your application, please do not hesitate to contact the Principals PA Lucy Lakin: st-lakin-l@bluecoatacademy.org
