Job Details

Due to maternity leave, we have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Officer to work within People Directorate Finance, which is part of the Resources Directorate. This role will be specifically working with the Children and Families Service who are currently under-going major transformation. This offers additional exposure to develop skills, knowledge and experience. 

The Role

You will be part of a busy, dedicated team supporting front-line customer focused managers. You will also be expected to facilitate sound financial management by providing financial advice, information and support to Cost Centre Managers and other operational staff. You will support the Principal Accountant and Finance Manager in all financial tasks relevant to achieve the objectives of the annual financial cycle and Finance Team outcomes. 
Specifically:
 
• To support the Asylum Seekers team and to facilitate the specialised grant claim submissions to the Home Office. 
• Support and provide a range of financial, technical and administrative functions e.g. forecasting, budget setting, closure of accounts process. 
• Analyse and reconcile complex data in a variety of systems. 
• Provide financial advice and guidance to colleagues across the Council which may include more complex enquires which requires initiative and innovation. 
• Undertake project/one-off work in support of the Principal Accountant and Finance Manager. 

 

Key Requirements

We are looking for candidates who have:
 
• Experience of working within a professional finance environment 
• Either an AAT qualification (or working towards) or an equivalent qualification 
• Strong numerical, analytical and reconciliation skills 
• Excellent communication and organisational skills 
• Experience of using Microsoft Office including excellent knowledge of Excel
