Governor - Volunteer Role

The Governing Body at Glenthorne Community Primary School currently have a vacancy for a co-opted governor to serve for a period of up to three years. In our Ofsted visit during 2018, our rating was confirmed as 'Good'. We are a growing school and have increased pupil numbers year on year for the past three years. We are hoping to recruit a dynamic individual who can be part of our journey of continuous improvement.

Joining the Governing Body as a Co-opted Governor offers you the opportunity to make a real contribution to the life and work of your child’s school. As this is a Co-opted Governor role, the position is open to parents and the wider community; grandparents, relatives and members of the general public. If you feel someone you know would be interested, please pass on the information or ask them to call the school directly.

Governors play a key role in the leadership of the school and raising of standards, including the appointment of key staff, overseeing the budget and monitoring progress in the curriculum.  Being a governor can be very rewarding and will provide you with the opportunity to work as part of a team and gain new skills. Don’t worry if you have no experience, full training and support is available from the Local Authority and your colleagues on the Governing Body.

Please note, the most important duty of any governor is to attend meetings of the Governing Body and you should be sure that you are committed and available to do this before applying. At Glenthorne Community Primary School, the Governing Body meets every half term, usually in the evenings. We also hold ‘Governor Days’ during the school day, these are usually once a year.

Preferred skills (while not essential) : Premises Management, Health and Safety an understanding of Educational Standards.

Interested parties are encouraged to make an appointment to visit the school and ask any questions they may have.

If you wish to nominate yourself as a co-opted governor, please complete the enclosed form and return it to school no later than 5th February 2019.
