1 year Sandwich Placement

Salary: £16,495 p.a. (pay award pending)

Commitment: 36 weeks minimum

Solihull Council is pleased to offer two paid industrial/sandwich placements for undergraduates with an interest in promoting sustainable travel and bringing about positive behaviour change with school-aged children and young people.

Working under the direction of the Sustainable Travel Officer, you will be a member of a dedicated team responsible for the development and delivery of safe and active travel initiatives to schools and educational settings across Solihull.

During the placement you will be required to support a number of activities including delivering lessons to children and young people in schools.

To undertake this placement you must have successfully completed your second year of an undergraduate course. Whilst your degree may be in any discipline, this may be of particular interest if you wish to pursue a career in education, teaching or psychology/clinical psychology.

To be successful you will have

  • Previous work experience
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Presentation skills, able to engage confidently with a range of audiences including school age children, parents, school staff and other council staff.
  • Problem solving skills, able to deal with unexpected and difficult situations.
  • Good IT skills, able to use Microsoft Word and Excel, the Internet and email
  • Organisation and time management skills, able to plan and prioritise own workload to meet targets and deadlines.
