Elmwood School is an expanding Local Authority SEMH school in the leafy suburb of Rushall in Walsall. The school has 72 mixed 11-16 year olds on roll split into three discreet areas. We offer a wide and personalised curriculum catering for a range of abilities up to and including GCSEs / BTEC’s. We are looking for an innovative person who is capable of establishing positive relationships working with young people with complex needs. You must have high expectations, flexibility and resilience. If you are passionate about making a difference and genuinely care for pupils who are on the brink of social exclusion, then we would love to meet you.

We are looking to appoint a Teaching Assistant to join our team.  You will be required to work in a classroom setting and/or on a 1:1 basis, to support some of our disadvantaged young people, with the aim of raising achievement. A specific strength in delivering interventions to reluctant learners would be beneficial.

Primary based Teaching Assistants are also welcome to apply as we appreciate the skills you possess with some of our younger pupils.

You must have:

•       NVQ3 for Teaching Assistants, or equivalent

•       A positive attitude

•       Resilience

•       Willingness to work with challenging pupils

•       Be physically fit and capable of implementing the principles of Team Teach (Physical Interventions) – once suitably trained

•       Very good numeracy/literacy skills

•       Willingness to drive school transport (if applicable)

·           Good computer skills

You will need to understand and comply with the general requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act, 1974, and be prepared to attend training courses, if appropriate.  You will also need to have DBS clearance (enhanced).

If you would like to work with us to ensure that Elmwood School continues to build on its current successes and continued expansion, then please obtain an application pack from our website www.elmwood.walsall.sch.uk or by email: lmaritza@elmwood.walsall.sch.uk

School visit dates:  2pm March 25th 2019 or 10am March 27th 2019 – please ring to book yourself in

Closing date:  1pm Monday April 8th 2019

Interview date:   Tuesday May 7th 2019

We are totally committed to safeguarding, child protection and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All appointments are subject to enhanced DBS checks
