About Us

Transport for West Midlands is the transport face of the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), a strategic authority working with partners to deliver a stronger West Midlands, with a focus on skills, innovation, transport, economic development and regeneration.  We work with individual Councils and Local Enterprise Partnerships who deliver many vital services, but on the big decisions we ensure we have the resources to work together and tackle specialist challenges and opportunities.

This is an exciting time for the West Midlands - with Coventry’s City of Culture in 2020, the Commonwealth Games here in 2022, the arrival of HS2 which will help make us a world class business location and a new £350m housing deal aims to deliver 215,000 new homes by 2031.  All supported by a massive local programme of bus rapid transit, highway improvements, bike hire, new metro lines and new local rail stations.

Against a backdrop of a uniquely challenging and evolving environment, we are looking for the right people to ensure we can meet the demands of delivering an ambitious agenda that aims to build a healthier, happier, better connected and more prosperous West Midlands.

About the Role

This is an exciting new post in the Transport Innovation team of TfWM’s Policy, Strategy and Innovation Directorate.  We enable and drive a wide variety of activity from shaping new policy; producing the data and intelligence that drives the whole organisation; to introducing self-driving vehicles and 5G to the transport system. The role will involve project management and scheduling, managing of contractors, creating technical products, project development and solutioneering.

The post holder will develop and deliver existing and new Connected and Autonomous Vehicle projects which Transport for West Midlands is delivering through our partnerships, working with the team to ensure that TfWM is delivering its obligations across the £100m+ collaborative mobility innovation programme is it partnered on.  A key aspect of this is working our partners and local authority ITS and UTMC teams, data analysts, innovation managers to integrate the exploitable benefits of ITS and CAV technology into business as usual activity.

To succeed in this role, you will have some contractor or stakeholder management experience in addition to demonstrable experience of developing and delivering technical projects. The right individual will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, genuine enthusiasm and a passion to change the world for the better by exploiting technology and innovative practices to drive real world benefits.

In return for your hard work and commitment, we will reward you with a range of competitive and attractive benefits. You will have an unparalleled opportunity to work with some of UK’s largest and most innovative companies and will be helping shape one of the strongest transport innovation programmes in the UK to act as a global showcase.

To view and apply for these opportunities please visit https://www.wmca.org.uk/careers where you will be required to register with our Online Recruitment System which is quick and easy. Please provide detailed information in your application outlining your suitability for the post and ensure it is submitted by the closing date.

A CV may be uploaded for extra information, but please note that personal details should be omitted and a CV alone will not be accepted.

Closing Date: 3rd March 2019

Interview date: 14th March 2019
