Walsall Council is looking to appoint a Schools Assurance Officer for our schools traded DPO service. In this key role, you will work closely with the Data Protection Manager in supporting the provision of excellent information and advice, monitoring compliance requirements regarding GDPR and Data Protection Legislation in particular, and support the Information Governance Team, other members of staff and third parties.
You will work with services and schools to ensure information governance principles and practices are embedded in everything we do by creating and publishing policies, procedures and guidance, and therefore excellent verbal and written communication skills are important.

For this role the successful candidates must undergo a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check. BPSS is the minimum standard to ensure the identity and integrity of an employee who has access to official information using secure networks linking central government and local authorities. A BPSS check involves four main elements; Identity Check, National and Immigration Status, Employment History (last 3 years) and Verification of Criminal Record (unspent convictions only).
This post is covered by the Government’s Code of Practice on the English Language Fluency Duty for public sector workers.
The post holder will be required to communicate verbally with all levels of staffing and provide advice and/or information in accurate spoken English.
