Are you a qualified teacher with a passion for working with families to achieve excellent outcomes for children and young people?

Can you respect and support families who elect to educate their child/ren at home whilst balancing the statutory requirement or identify when an EHE programme is not appropriate? If so, this role may be for you.

The role

You will lead on the effective monitoring of Elective Home Education. This will include:

• Maintaining, promoting and improving the City’s protocols and processes to ensure that all children and young people are receiving a suitable education and families are appropriately supported in their choices.
• Undertake home visits, meeting with families, offering advice and support.
• Identify and act upon any requests from families to secure their school place and signpost/refer to any support services as required e.g. school nursing.

The Elective Home Education role sits within SEND and Specialist Service, providing access to all education services.

You’ll need:

• a professional teaching qualification with significant teaching experience.
• outstanding communications and listening skills and the ability to build strong trusting relationships whilst balancing the requirement to challenge when necessary. 
• an understanding of the application of education law and legislation relating to Elective Home Education, school attendance, exclusions and SEND.
• the ability to work through complex situations with service users and other professionals.

Working Hours: 22.5 Hours per Week
