At Thorns Primary we offer a safe, secure and welcoming environment in which all can thrive. Our children are a delight; happy, well-behaved and hard-working. They are well supported by a team of dedicated staff, who work extremely hard to do their best for every child and make their time at Thorns happy and successful. We are a diverse school community and we embrace this; it makes life here more exciting!

We are committed to providing every child with buildings and grounds that are safe, welcoming, clean and tidy.

The Governors wish to appoint a suitably experienced person to be our Site Manager, with a track record of working efficiently and effectively. We need someone who cares enough to make a difference!

You must be extremely flexible, trustworthy, organised and reliable with a positive approach to work. The position involves general day-to-day site management duties, including key holding, opening and locking up premises, site security, supervision of cleaning staff, repairs, maintenance and painting.

Previous experience of working as a site manager/caretaker on a school site is desirable but not essential. Experience in the building trade including small scale building projects, painting, maintenance and general repair is desirable. Ability to carry out maintenance and improvements is essential e.g. carpentry, tiling, plumbing. You will be willing to undertake training and we offer a full range of training courses for your professional development.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who takes pride in their work and who would gain great satisfaction from maintaining the school site, ensuring it provides a safe and attractive learning environment for our pupils. The post offered is 37 hours per week for 52 weeks of the year; and has split shifts (holidays must be taken during school holidays). Working hours will be negotiated at interview, although hours will be between 7:00 and 6:00 (5:30 p.m. Fridays). There is a requirement to attend to callouts as and when they happen.

A key part of the role is ensuring the site is Health & Safety compliance and keeping appropriate records and logs, including taking charge of the premises check list under the supervision of the Business Manager.

This is NOT a residential post.

Visits to the school are expected and these will take place on Monday 25th, Tuesday 26th or Wednesday 27th February. Please contact Mrs K Cartwright the School Business Manager on 01384 818286 to arrange a visit. Interview questions/tasks may be related to this visit.

Closing date is 27th February 2019. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by Friday 8th March. Unfortunately we will not be able to contact unsuccessful applicants.

Interviews will take place on Monday 11th March 2019 and the successful applicant will be expected to commence employment on Monday 29th April 2019.

Thorns Primary School is committed to safeguarding and the successful applicant will be subject to enhanced DBS clearance and other pre-employment clearances.
