    Your Role:

An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen to be part of a new Senior Management Team in Children's Social Care in Herefordshire. There will be two vacant Head of Service posts that are responsible for the delivery of the Statutory responsibilities of the Local Authority, through a modern and dynamic Children's Social Care

The Head of Service role within Herefordshire has a wider scope than similarly titled roles in other authorities. This is mainly because:

The size of Herefordshire means people are more involved in future service planning in these roles that would normally be the case. This means people can develop both their wider operational management - driving performance AND shape the future of the services

Heads of Service are part of the whole directorate management team and expected to make an informed comment and add value to the work across the all the services - this includes both the safeguarding arena and the education and skills agenda.

Heads of Service are also part of the corporate Leadership Group helping to shape the whole organisation culture and make a contribution to 'task and finish' and consultative work in areas as diverse as winter planning to community services.

Heads of Service will be involved in the Political and governance process. This takes the form of member briefings, drafting responses to questions and developing and taking papers through the Cabinet decision making processes.

Heads of Service are members of a number of multi-agency strategic forums and, depending on role, regional work

    The Package:

    Salary £58,440 - £66,440

A market forces supplement may be payable.

Individual Learning Account £250 per year to invest in personal/professional development in addition to general CPD programme

Discretionary relocation allowance of up to £7000 available subject to conditions

Herefordshire Council is currently procuring a range of other staff benefits including retail and leisure discounts, health and well-being and holiday trading. These are subject to the procurement process and are expected to be available to staff from April 2019

    About You:

You will have a demonstrable track record of delivery as a senior manager within a Children's Social Care environment, and be able to evidence your skills in collaborative working within a wider Corporate senior management group, as well as with colleagues in Health. You are a confident leader, with a demonstrable passion for Social care modernisation, and your leadership style embodies the Council. You will also hold a Professional Social Work Qualification and have suitable management qualifications and experience.
