The Role

37.0 Hours per Week

Fixed Term End Date: 19.07.19 (position dependent on having a specific pupil on roll)

• Working under the overall supervision of the responsible teacher, to assist and support teaching and learning, 
• Working with an individual child with specific SEND/educational needs on a 1:1 basis or with a small group for approximately 50% of the school week; 
• Working to provide assistance as a class-based Teaching Assistant, working with individuals or small groups of children to assist with learning activities and educational needs for the remainder of the school week; 
• Assist in providing for the general care and safety of pupils and for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school; 
• Operate with ‘Unconditional Positive Regard’, treating pupils and other staff with dignity, building relationships rooted in mutual respect, and at all times observing proper boundaries appropriate to a teaching assistant’s professional position; 
• To promote equal opportunities with the school and to seek to assist in the implementation of the school’s equal opportunities policy where applicable to the role. 
• Carry out other associated duties as are reasonably assigned by the head teacher.

Key Requirements

• GCSEs (A-C) / including English and maths 
• High-level vocational qualifications or degrees 
Hold a recognised and relevant NVQ level 2 or 3 qualification and have undertaken other appropriate training or be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, experience and skills.

• Recent experience of working with children and young people as a class-based Teaching Assistant and / or experience of working specifically with children with SEND• Have a sound knowledge of social, emotional and learning development. 
• Have a sound knowledge of SEND needs, and how to support children with complex needs 
• Sound knowledge of safeguarding and child Protection. 
• Good interpersonal and communication skills for networking and role-modelling to children. 
• Ability to collaborate with others and build effective relationships with other professionals. 
• Ability to handle situations with sensitivity and confidentiality and be non-confrontational. 
• Can deliver small group and individual support skills for learning, positive behaviour, social and emotional development to children. 
• Is imaginative in developing alternative strategies to motivate and engage children in a learning task, particularly for those with SEND. 
• Able to set high expectations for pupil behaviour, establishing and maintaining a good standard of discipline through adhering to school policy and building positive relationships with children. 
• Be able to feedback concisely and accurately on pupils’ progress and attainment in a learning task to other colleagues. 
• Understand and promote “unconditional positive regard,” through word, action and relentless positivity. 
• Be passionate about as aspects of educational inclusion and SEND. 
• Committed to extending own professional competence and knowledge. 
• Have an understanding of your professional responsibilities in relation to school policies and practices. 
• Ability to reflect on own work and contribution to the school.
