Job Details

This is an exciting time for Coventry City Council; awarded the UK City of Culture for 2021, with a rapidly expanding population and a buoyant and growing private rented sector, keeping residents safe and tackling poor housing conditions is a key strategic priority for the Council.

Coventry has many challenges in the housing market with 25% of its properties in the private rented sector. Some of these properties are managed by criminal landlords who put their tenant's lives at risk.

The Council operates a borough wide Mandatory HMO Licensing Scheme and has big plans to introduce other property licensing schemes to deal with issues caused by the poor management of privately rented properties.

We are looking for a number of full time Housing Enforcement Officers who want to make a difference to the living conditions of some of our most vulnerable residents and drive criminal landlords from the City. These roles offer an opportunity to work in a busy high profile environment.

Specifically we would like our Housing Enforcement Officers to have experience in taking enforcement action including prosecutions and knowledge of housing standards and property licensing. Being HHSRS trained would be a distinct advantage but we are willing to invest in the right person to make sure our schemes are successful.

As an Enforcement Officer, you will investigate poor conditions in the private rented sector. You will respond to service requests from residents, take part in pro-active enforcement action and also deal with licensing of houses in multiple occupation and other properties in the private rented sector.

You should have knowledge and understanding of Housing, with particular emphasis on Private Sector Housing Enforcement, property licensing and Housing legislation and an understanding of up to date developments in Private Sector Housing, with particular emphasis on Housing Enforcement, more general Housing practices and procedures within local authority settings.

Working Hours:  37.0 Hours per Week

Interview Date:  08/04/2019

Benefits

In return, we can offer you an excellent pension scheme, 'MyCar' scheme, flexible working, interest-free loans on annual travel cards, discounts at a number of city centre restaurants, shops and other establishments.

Coventry City Council is committed to delivering the best possible services and improving the quality of life for Coventry people.
